Board 141: Illuminous Crypt

This picture shows the outside of an old spooky-looking crypt at night. Lit candles are strewn about the ground, and light pours from the open door.

Level 1 (Clear 30 red pegs from 93 total - Pro target 500k)

The first design is three crooked forked lines like the bare branches of the trees in the picture. There is also a thin spread of round pegs.

Attempt #1 - No power ups. Score: 438,200
  • I never really managed to break into the branches at the bottom. A laser ball would make short work of them, but I'm not quite ready for that yet.

Attempt #2 - No power ups. Score: 342,380
  • A bit rubbish that one.

Attempt #3 - No power ups. Score: 231,620
  • Down to three red pegs, but I couldn't seem to pick up the bonuses, so my score was woeful. I'd better use a laser ball.

Attempt #4 - Laser Ball. Score: 882,890
  • The laser ball soon cut it down to size. I ended up with a total clearance with a ball or two to spare.

Level 2 (Clear 25 red pegs from 84 total - Pro target 400k)

The second design is a graphical representation of the side of the steps that can be seen in the crypt entrance. Lines of round pegs represent the rays of light coming from within.

Attempt #1 - No power ups. Score: 671,830
  • This one wasn't too bad, although I was greatly helped by a lucky rebound that took out a lot of pegs.

Level 3 (Clear 30 red pegs from 126 total, with only 9 balls - Pro target 425k)

The third design uses a lot of lines from the picture. It's a jumble of straight lines, curves and single round pegs.

Attempt #1 - No power ups. Score: 234,090
  • I was quite a long way short of both points and pegs. I'll give it one more go, but I suspect I'll need a laser ball here.

Attempt #2 - No power ups. Score: 248,850
  • Three red pegs left. Although the score wasn't much better, this did feel a lot closer. I will still use a laser ball though.

Attempt #3 - Laser Ball. Score: 184,350
  • A disaster! I just couldn't get through to the yellow peg to trigger the laser ball. By the time I did, I was down to three balls, had very little score, and a lot of pegs were gone, so the laser ball only took out 14 pegs.

Attempt #4 - Laser Ball. Score: 782,840
  • It took quite a few shots to get through to the yellow peg again, but this time I managed to catch most of them. I also managed to score well with the laser ball when I eventually got it. I was two pegs short of a total clearance at the end, but that didn't matter.

Level 4 (Clear 25 red pegs from 102 total, with only 9 balls - Pro target 500k)

The fourth design is a close up of the top of the entrance to the crypt. The pegs form a rough arch shape, making this quite a condensed level. There are some loose pegs above and to the side, but not many.

Attempt #1 - No power ups. Score: 436,200
  • Not a bad effort, although I may have been quite lucky to get as close as I did. I'll wait and see what happens with the next attempt.

Attempt #2 - No power ups. Score: 392,280
  • Only two red pegs left, but I was struggling for points a bit. I think it warrants one more go.

Attempt #3 - No power ups. Score: 694,860
  • I managed to get through it without power ups, so I'm glad I gave it that one more try. Some good catching, a reasonable run of luck and a few decent ricochets did the trick.

Level 5 (Clear 30 red pegs from 104 total, with only 9 balls - Pro target 475k)

The fifth design is of two candles with a line of round pegs along the bottom.

Attempt #1 - No power ups. Score: 549,370
  • I really rode my luck with catches in that one. It was one of those games where there seems to be a magnet in the bucket, and it always happens to be in the right place at the right time.

Level 6 (Clear 40 red pegs from 126 total, with only 8 balls - Pro target 600k)

The same design as level 3, but with 10 more red pegs, one less ball, and 175k on the pro target.

Attempt #1 - Laser Ball. Score: 784,500
  • It took a few balls to get to the yellow peg, but I caught some of them, and then did well with the laser ball. I had to make quite a few catches towards the end, but a pro score never looked a problem.

Level 7 (Clear ALL pegs - 25 red and 68 blue, with only 9 balls - Pro target 800k)

The same design as level 1, but with 5 fewer red pegs, one less ball, 300k on the pro target, and a total clearance now required.

Attempt #1 - Laser Ball. Score: 1,082,120
  • There were two or three particularly good balls for bonuses in there. I like to think I still would have made the pro score without them, but I may be fooling myself. I certainly wouldn't have hit a seven figure score without them.

Level 8 (Clear 40 red pegs from 104 total, with only 6 balls - Pro target 700k)

The same design as level 5, but with 10 more red pegs, three fewer balls, and 225k on the pro target.

Attempt #1 - Laser Ball. Score: 913,220
  • A convenient yellow peg, and a good laser ball helped out a lot there. I got to the last red peg with balls to spare so I was trying for another million points, but fell just short.

Level 9 (Clear 40 red pegs from 102 total, with only 6 balls - Pro target 725k)

The same design as level 4, but with 15 more red pegs, three fewer balls, and 225k on the pro target.

Attempt #1 - Laser Ball. Score: 1,090,170
  • It took a few shots to get to the yellow peg, but they were all caught for reasonable points, so that wasn't a bad thing. The laser ball scored particularly well, and my catching was on target afterwards. I went all the way to a total clearance with a seven figure score.

Level 10 (Clear ALL pegs - 35 red and 49 blue, with only 8 balls - Pro target 800k)

The same design as level 2, but with 10 more red pegs, two fewer balls, a whopping 400k on the pro target, and a total clearance now needed.

Attempt #1 - Laser Ball. Score: 731,910
  • Just one catch short of a total clearance. And with a good chance of a pro score as well. Annoying!

Attempt #2 - Laser Ball. Score: 361,530
  • I didn't get the luck that time. Too many missed catches.

Attempt #3 - Laser Ball. Score: 582,310
  • Just seven pegs left at the end, so I'm getting closer.

Attempt #4 - Laser Ball. Score: 637,450
  • Well I got the total clearance and, therefore, the relic for the board, but over 150k short of the pro target.

Attempt #5 - Laser Ball. Score: 798,870
  • I can't get much closer than that without hitting the pro target. Less than 2k short of it. I am getting the hang of the angles though, so the signs are promising.

Attempt #6 - Laser Ball. Score: 467,880
  • It took too long and too many pegs to break through to the yellow peg. It meant I had to take lots of risks with the remaining pegs to have a chance of reaching the pro target, and inevitably ran out of balls.

Attempt #7 - Laser Ball. Score: 360,320
  • Again, I was struggling to get through to the yellow peg. I think I'll add a Big bounce and see if that helps at all.

Attempt #8 - Laser Ball & Big Bounce. Score: 750,160
  • I did well to put myself in contention for a pro score there, as points were hard to come by. I needed a maximum 200k final bonus to get it, but at least I had a chance. I only managed 110k which left me 50k short.

Attempt #9 - Laser Ball & Big Bounce. Score: 713,890
  • Again, I managed to get myself in with a shout at the end, but only for a maximum 200k finish. Again, I had to be satisfied with 110k instead.

Attempt #10 - Laser Ball & Big Bounce. Score: 795,750
  • I was amassing a good score there, but I only managed a 92% clearance, so I left a lot of pegs at the end.

Attempt #11 - Laser Ball & Big Bounce. Score: 446,960
  • Lots of missed catches in that one. A bit of a waste of a credit really.

Attempt #12 - Laser Ball & Big Bounce. Score: 632,550
  • Two pegs left, so I was in with a chance if I could have made a couple more catches.

Attempt #13 - Laser Ball & Big Bounce. Score: 678,980
  • I couldn't get my score up enough to be in with a chance at the end. Even 200k wouldn't have been enough. I didn't score enough from the Big Bounce.

Attempt #14 - Laser Ball & Big Bounce. Score: 562,980
  • I was left with an awkward cluster in the bottom middle which are very tricky to judge catches off.

Attempt #15 - Laser Ball & Big Bounce. Score: 590,440
  • After I'd used both the laser ball and the big bounce, I still only had 117k. I would've needed a miracle to get a pro score from there. I did well just to clear up.

Attempt #16 - Laser Ball & Big Bounce. Score: 420,160
  • Not enough catches. The Big Bounce took out just 4 pegs. Enough for tonight, I think. I try again tomorrow.

Attempt #17 - Laser Ball & Big Bounce. Score: 724,130
  • I gve myself a chance, but a paltry 20k final bonus put paid to any chance of a pro score.

Attempt #18 - Laser Ball & Big Bounce. Score: 460,060
  • Four pegs left at the end, but the bonuses weren't forthcoming in the early part of the game, so even if I'd got them all off the side wall and caught all the balls, I still wouldn't have made the pro target.

Attempt #19 - Laser Ball & Big Bounce. Score: 1,101,270
  • I've tried various paths for the laser ball, but going really high on the right-hand wall seems to be the most profitable. The Big Bounce worked really well as well, going all over the place for a big score. I was already feeling confident about halfway through as my score was clearly going to be big enough, and although there were still a lot of pegs left, they were all in good catching positions. I cleared up with about three balls to spare, smashing the pro target in the process.
